WWII - Herald and Review Library; Caudill, Virginia, 12/19/1943. Article on the back of the photo: "An eyewitness account of the tragic wreck on the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad in North Carolina early Thursday morning, was given here last night by Miss Virginia Caudill. of 1061 North Edward St. Miss Caudill is a survivor of the wreck. She arrived in Decatur yesterday to spend Christmas leave with her mother, Mrs. C. L. Hutson. She is a SPAR and was on her way hom from Palm Beach, Fla. after finishing her training for Coast Guard duty. Although she received a minor back injury in the wreck, Miss Caudill was able to continue on her way home. She will have her back examined by a navy physician today to determine the extent of the injury."
