Herald and Review Library: Mize, Pfc. Melvin F., Article on back of photo; "Private First Class Melvin F. Mize, 27, a former, Decatur, Illinois, truck driver, has been returned to this country for treatment of wounds received in the fighting on Luzon, where he saw action as a rifleman in the 158th Infantry Regiment--the famed 'Bushmasters'. he was overseas 16 months, and has the Combat Infantryman Badge for exemplary conduct in action against the enemy. Private Mize is shown above at Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, California, awaiting transfer to another hospital. His wife, Mrs. Verla Mize, lives in Herrick, Illinois, and his mother, Mrs. Ada Mize, at 548 East Marietta Street in Decatur."
