Herald and Review Library: Metzinger, 1st Lt. Dale J., Article on back of photo; "First Lt. Dale J. Metzinger, whose wife Mrs. Marcia J. Metzinger lives at 318 South Monroe street, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for participation in more than 30 heavy bombing attacks in vital Nazi targets in Germany, and in support of advances by Allied ground forces on the continent. He already hold the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters. Pilot on a B-17 Flying Fortress he is the son of Mrs. A. E. Metzinger of Kankakee. He attended Illinois State University Normal before entering service."
