Description

Decatur, City of--Schools--Dennis--Building--1910. "The Dennis School served the children of the west side for nearly 45 years before the new addition was constructed, looked like this when it was being built in 1910. It replaced the older West Main School and the house on that site. The new West Main school was named Dennis after the heirs of Andrew Dennis said they would open for public use a strip of land west of the school grounds to make a street from West Main south to Decatur Street. The history of Dennis School and area is shown in murals by the children. Photo ran Nov. 27, 1910 and Feb. 17, 1955."
