Description
Herald and Review Library: Linn, James H., Article on back of photo; "Cpl. James H. Linn, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Linn, 1315 North Union street and Luther Smith, a civilian employee of the War department, saved the life of Staff Sgt. Kemp H. Caudill, White Head, N.C., recently at the army air field at Myrtle Beach, S.C. Sergeant Caudill was operating a drill beneath a ship in drydock at the Myrtle Beach crash boat detachment when a short circuit developed, causing the drill to go out of control. Mr. Smith reached the socket and removed the plug to break the current just as the drill reached Sergeant Caudill's face. by this time the sergeant was 'out cold'. Corporal Linn rushed to his side and applied artificial respiration until the near victim of electrocution was revived. corporal Linn attended Decatur high school and was employed by the Fisher Grocery Co. before entering service in 1941. He completed training as a radio operator at Scott Field."
