Herald and Review Library: Knight, Llewellyn S., Article on back of photo; "Coast Guardsman Llewellyn S. Knight, seaman first class, son of Mrs. E. A. French, 2032 North Monroe street, recently returned to the States after 10 months' duty aboard a coast guard-manned frigate which rescued seven army scouts trapped behind Japanese lines in the Philippines. Driving the ship's launch, the coast guardsmen accomplished their mission in the face of heavy enemy fire. Seaman Knight's ship also convoyed reinforcements to Leyte and helped to clear the sea lanes. Seaman Knight enlisted in July, 1942, and has been on active sea duty one year. He is a former employee of the Western Electric Co. in Illinois and Wisconsin."
