Herald and Review Library: Kiick, Maj. Richard D.; Article on back of photo: "Richard D. Kiick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer L. Kiick, of 535 West Prairie street, is shown receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross from his commanding officer with the Fifth Air Force fight command in the Philippines. He was promoted to the rank of major the same day. Commanding officer of a night fighter squadron, Major Kiick flies a P-61 Black Widow 'Shirley Lee.' He previously was awarded the Air Medal for downing two enemy planes."
