Article on back of photo: " Decatur Youth on Carrier: 'I don't think there's a man who was on the Wasp, who isn't itching to get another crack at the Japs.' Jack Anders, seaman first class, who manned an anti-aircraft gun on the aircraft carrier at the time it was sunk on Sept 15 in the Solomon Islands, said last night. Anders, who arrived in Decatur last Thursday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Anders, route 4, had been a gunner on the carrier since last February and stuck with her in the Solomon Islands battle until fire and heat drove him over the side."
