Description

Herald and Review Library: Hill, Lt. M. J.; Article on back of photo; "Dealing With Fanatics, First Lieut. M. J. Hill, who is home recuperating from injuries received in an adventure that rivals fiction, has viewed the war from fighting the Germans. The former well known Decatur singer was pilot of a Liberator bomber which was shot down over a German-occupied region of Yugoslavia. 'we must recognize in the early stage of enforcing the peace that is to follow this war that we are not dealing with men but with fanatics,' Lieutenant Hill said, 'and we must not falter in making our decisions stick.' 'After what I have seen, I don't think it possible to give the Germans a just peace--unless maybe you would turn it over to the outraged peoples of the occupied countries to administer." The atrocity stores and reports of cruelty are not exaggerated, and the bitterness with which the Germans are hated by some of their neighboring peoples is almost unbelievable. I think that's why the Germans are fighting."
