Description

Photograph of the Dennis School building taken in 1910. Dennis School served the children of the west side for nearly 45 years before a new addition was constructed; this is how the building looked when it was being built in 1910. The school replaced the older West Main School and the house on that site. The new West Main school was named Dennis after the heirs of Andrew Dennis said they would open for public use a strip of land west of the school grounds to make a street from West Main south to Decatur Street. The history of Dennis School and the area is shown in murals by the children.
