Description

Photographs from the June 18, 1914 fire that occured at the Decatur Trunk Factory and the 'Come Across' pool room on N Water St. The fire was started by a loud explosion that originated in the pool room and was heard and felt throughout the business center downtown. The fire then spread next door to the Decatur Trunk Factory. The cause of the explosion was originally theorized to be from the blowing of a safe, however this theory was quickly dismissed and the origin of the explosion was unknown. The loss on the buildings was placed at $35,000.
