Description
Photographs of the fire at the Decatur Coffin Company which occurred July 10, 1907. The fire was discovered at 2 am Wednesday morning and did $20,000 damage to the building. The fire was discovered by the watchman at the plant, John Moore, on the fourth floor at the east end of the building facing East North St. The fire started in the 'couch room' which is where material for upholstering the caskets was kept. Earl W. Bradley and Benjamin Perkins, two firemen, were plunged from the fourth floor to the basement of the building and buried under feet of rubble. Both men sustained injuries but survived. The building was owned by T. T. Roberts, O.Z. Greene, George E. Moeller and Charles R. Murphy.
