Herald and Review Library; Article on back of photo; "L. A. Gibbons Dies in Action, Warrant Officer Lawrence A. Gibbons, son of the late L. L. Gibbons, head of detectives of the Decatur police department, was killed in action Dec 19 in Belgium, the Secretary of War has notified his wife, Mrs. O. Grace Gibbons, of 1861 East Main Street. On Jan 22, Mrs. Gibbons was notified by the War department that her husband had been reported missing in action since Dec. 19 in Luxembourg. A former employee of the B. B. Burns Co., Warrant Officer Gibbons was serving as motor inspector with the army. He entered service in 1942, and received training at Camp Polk, La. His wife is the former Grace Ekiss. Warrant Officer Gibbons was the brother of Jack and Rosemary Gibbons of Decatur."
