Herald and Review Library: Article on back of photo: "Staff Sgt. James M. Galligan, son of Mrs. James Galligan, 364 East Eldorado street, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for "extraordinary achievement" while serving as a tail-gunner on a Flying Fortress, it was recently announced from his base in England. Sergeant Galligan, who also holds the air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, has participated in bombing attacks on oil refineries and industrial targets in Germany. The citation accompanying the medal said in part, "The courage, presence of mind and devotion to duty while engaged in aerial combat on all these occasions are in keeping with the highest traditions of the army air forces."
