WWII - Herald and Review Library; Dickson, Pvt. Charles O., 2/23/1944. Article on back of photo: "Mt. Zion Youth Cited as Hero, for unusual bravery while under sniper fire on Guadalcanal Island, Pvt. Charles O. Dickson, Mt. Zion, has been recommended for the award of the Silver star, according to word received from the War Department by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar L. Dickson, Mt. Zion. Dickson, who is now a private first class, is at present in a rest camp in New Zealand. He entered army service in October, 1941. Prior to that he had been employed as boilermaker's helper at the Wabash Railroad shops."
