Description

Photograph of John Zeller; (died 4/11/1932). He came to Decatur about 1860 and started driving oxen used by the Wabash in switching cars. Later he took a job in a meat packing plant that was located about where the Catholic Cemetery (Calvary)now is and later became the owner of the plant. He also opened a retail meat market on Water St. About 1900 he went back to the Wabash and retired after several years. He was an expert landscape gardener. He was one of the oldest members of St. James' Catholic Church. Photo by Seitz of Decatur, ran in the Review 8/24/1930.
