Photograph of George A. Stadler and fellow golfer ready to tee-off. George A. Stadler; (died 5/25/1935). Former Decatur mayor and prominent business man. He came to Decatur in 1890 and became a member of the firs, Young Bros. and Maris, wholesale grocers. After 5 years he and Sherman McClelland opened a whole sale house which in 1902 was consolidate with the National Grocery Co. From 1902 until 1906 he was owner of a large retail grocery at the side of the Greider's Cafeteria. For several years he was engaged in real estate, insurance, and loan business, buying out E. G. Allen in 1909. In 1913 he became secretary of the People's Savings and Loan Assn. He was elected mayor in 1899. Leader in Masonic circles and a member of the board of managers of Millikin for 12 years. Photo ran in the Decatur Review June 26, 1914.
