Description
Herald and Review Library: Photo of Group of Military Draftees; Article on back of photo; "Older men, those between 28 and 35 years of age formerly classified as 1-H, were predominant in the large group of selectees scheduled to leave here at 4:30 o'clock this morning by ITS train for Peoria examination and induction into the United States army.
Men with heads tending to baldness stood beside younger men whose deferments have just expired yesterday afternoon when they met in the county building to receive instructions from Paul F. Marshall, chief clerk of Decatur board No. 2.
Included in the group was Dismond Bean of Blue Mound, Macon county deputy sheriff.
Contingent leaders named yesterday by draft boards were: Warren Spencer Clark of Argenta, Macon county rural board: William Maddox, 936 West Marietta street, Decatur board No. 1, Harold M. Sweat, rural route 7, Decatur board No. 2.
The group was the second to contain a large number of older men. The first group containing men re-classified as a-A from 1-H was inducted two weeks ago."
