WWII - Herald and Review Library: Doolen, Sgt. Carl, 5/12/1945. Article on back of photo: "Two sons of Mrs. Dewey Doolen, 1115 1/2 Cottage Hill Ave., have completed tours of duty overseas and have returned home. Sgt. Carl Doolen arrived in Decatur last week after more than 18 months in the South Pacific theater with the army air force. He is an expert on all small arms and acted as instructor in amphibious training and chemical warfare. He participated in training the 77th division which saw combat in the Philippines campaign. Sergeant Carl is now attached to the air transport command. After a visit with his family he will report for reassignment and hopes to go overseas again."
