Herald and Review Library: Wells, Sgt. David H.; Article on back of photo; "For meritorious service in support of military operations against the Japanese in Norther Luzon, first Sgt. David H. Wells, rural route 6, Decatur, receives the Bronze Star medal from Major Gen. P. W. Clarkson, commanding general of the 33rd division. sergeant Wells personally supervised the security of the regimental command post and was in a large measure responsible for the fact that never during the campaign were the defenses penetrated by enemy forces. The citation which accompanied the medal stated in part, 'Sergeant Wells strict attention to duty and his capable handling of the work required of him contributed greatly to the efficient performance of his company.'"
