Herald and Review Library: Thornell, Sgt. Jack; Article on back of photo; "Tech. Sgt. Jack Thornell, a veteran of 50 months in the Pacific area, is spending a 21-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Nellie Harrison, 255 East Waggoner street. Sergeant Thornell, a former student at Decatur high school, entered service in September 1940 and was receiving training at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, at the time of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. 'I was just eating breakfast when the Jap Zeros started over our barracks on their way to bomb Wheeler Field,' the sergeant said."
