Description

Herald and Review Library: Stalker, Willard, Article on back of photo; "By Maxine Kyle of the Herald Staff; In the 10 months that Willard Stalker, sound man second class, has been on duty aboard a mine-sweeper, his ports of call have ranged from the dignity and beauty of t he Yalta conference to the devastation of Sardinia where little war orphans stood on their heads in GI garbage cans, wolfing down scraps. Stalker is on leave here with his wife, Jean, an employee at the Oakes Products division of Houdaille-Hershey Corp., at their home 975 West Main street, and with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold M. Stalker, 214 Pierson avenue. He entered service Dec 6, 1943.
'The boys on my ship and another ship,' he said, 'had the honor of standing guard at the Yalta conference. We had been on escort duty to Sevastopol and Yalta for the conference. We saw Roosevelt, churchill and Stalin. Of course, Churchill always had his cigar. Stalin is short, and quick of movement."
