Description
Herald and Review Library: Rohman, Robert K., Article on back of photo; "Staff Sgt. Robert K. Rohman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Rohman, 1421 East Wood street, has been awarded a Silver Star for gallantry in action while on a bombing mission over Germany May 6. During an attack by six enemy fighters, Sergeant Rohman, gunner-engineer, was painfully wounded and knocked out of his gun turret. Disregarding his wounds, according to the War department citation, he re-entered the turret and continued to fire at the attacking fighters, shooting one down in flames. Through his fortitude and devotion to duty, his plane was able to return to its base. Sergeant Rohman received the medal at the Northington General Hospital, Tuscaloosa, Ala.,, where he is receiving treatment for wounds. His wife and tow children live at Anniston, Ala."
